Top Gun Program

Thank you for your interest in the SCVS Top Gun Program. This exciting competition, which includes a reception during the final round, provides an opportunity for young surgeons to fine-tune their surgical skills in a safe, simulated environment. The program will take place as part of the SCVS Annual Symposium, which will be held March 29–April 2, 2025 at the Austin Marriott Downtown in Austin, Texas.

On Monday, March 31st, instructional sessions will be held to provide an opportunity for trainees to learn from national faculty and practice their open vascular and endovascular skills on a variety of simulators that will be used in the competition. The preliminary rounds of the competition will be held on Monday from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. The Top Gun Final Round will include winners from the Preliminary Round and be held on Monday evening from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Admission to the SCVS Top Gun Program will include complimentary meeting registration to attend the 2024 SCVS 51st Annual Symposium (including all social functions). Please follow the steps below to apply to the program.

ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION

The program is open to vascular fellows and vascular integrated residents. Interested fellows and residents must provide their full contact information. In 2024, the program is open to a maximum of 40 participants. Admission to the program will be based on completeness of application and order received. Priority will be given to represent as many different programs as possible, so it is likely there will not be two Fellows accepted from the same program. Fellows and/or Residents selected for the program will be notified via email.

SCVS VASCULAR TOP GUN PROGRAM SPECIFICS

Upon acceptance to the Top Gun Program, each trainee will be asked to sign up for instructional sessions during the day on Monday, March 18th. The competition incorporates open vascular and endovascular simulations with participants evaluated on the basis of their skills. During the Preliminary Round of competition all participants will be confronted with the same cases for simulation. Winners from their groups in the Preliminary Round will proceed to the Final Round. The Final Round will be held on Monday evening, starting at 5:30 pm. Each Final Round participant will be confronted with a variety of open vascular and endovascular cases and evaluated by a panel of SCVS judges.
