OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the actual stroke rate in carotid endarterectomy in the community hospital setting. METHODS: Retrospective chart review on 372 patients evaluating all-comers who underwent Carotid endarterectomy between January 1 2012 through Dec. 31st 2014. Inculsion criteria was any patient who underwent the procedure, incuding revision carotid endarterectomy, symptomatic, asymptomatic, difficult anatomic lesions. Exclusion criteria - none RESULTS: 1.6% overall stroke rate. Perioperative MI (clinically detected) rate of 0.5% CONCLUSIONS: Carotid endarterectomy is a safe and efficient procedure in the community hospital setting, and the neurologic event rate may in fact, be lower than that stated in the CREST trial
