Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX, USA.

OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate an open surgical option for venous occlusive disease. Although invasive, is a long lasting solution that can be offered after endovascular and less invasive open options have been exhausted.
METHODS: Open surgical venous bypass was performed from the common femoral vein to inferior vena cava with the creation of an arteriovenous fistula to assist in patency.
RESULTS: Successful creation of common femoral vein to inferior vena cava bypass with improvement of patient's symptoms.
CONCLUSIONS: After exhaustion of multiple different treatments of venous occlusive disease, femoral vein to inferior vena cava bypass provides a long lasting solution with positive results.
