Vertebral Artery Transposition To Common Carotid Artery
Muhammad M. Zubair, MD, Ahmed Mohamed, MD, Alan B. Lumsden, MD.
Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX, USA.

Objective:
To demonstrate left vertebral artery transposition on common carotid artery
Method:
Left common carotid artery and vertebral arteries were exposed by making an incision on the left side of neck between the two heads of sternocleidomastoid. Vertebral artery at it's origin from the aortic arch was controlled with clips , distally a clamp was placed and the artery was transected, it was then transposed on the common carotid artery.
Result:Successful transposition of left vertebral artery on to the common carotid artery
Conclusion:Left vertebral artery originating from the aortic arch can be transposed to the left common carotid artery to perform successful endovascular repair of descending thoracic aneurysm , allowing for adequate landing zone for the endovascular repair. In this case a thoracic endovascular stent graft with a side branch to subclavian artery was used.
